Create MyNetgear Account for Netgear Extender Setup

MyNetgear Account is essential for multiple reasons. However, it is important to understand that this Account supports services for all your Netgear Products. In other words, if you are already using a Netgear product like Router. Then, you must have created your User Account earlier. As such, you can use the same Account to register your new Extender. In short, you must create this Account only in case if you are using Netgear products for the very first time. 

  1. In the very first place, access any of the available Web Browsers on your Computer. 
  2. Then, go to “netgear.com”.
  3. Go to the top right-hand side. Then, click on the Profile icon that says “Sign In”.
  4. From the extended “Menu” box, click on the “Create Account” button.  
  5. This will lead you to the Account Creation window for Netgear Extender Setup. 
  6. Here, you must fill in the Profile Information Form accurately with correct details as listed below.
      1. First Name 
      2. Last Name
      3. Email Address
      4. Confirm Email Address
      5. Password
      6. Confirm Password
  7. Thereafter, click on the “Choose Country” drop-down box. Then, make an appropriate selection. 
  8. Along with that, select the option for permitting Emails regarding “products, great tips and tricks, feature enhancements” etc.
  9. After that, click on the Privacy Policy Link. Then, review its terms carefully.
  10. Finally, click “Continue”.
  11. The following window takes you through the Two-step Verification process. Hence, decide if you want to secure your Account with this added protection or not. 
  12. If you decide to add this security feature. Then, 
    1. Click on “Yes, Enable.”
    2. Provide a valid Phone Number to receive SMS Alerts.
    3. Click on the “Add Phone Number” tab.
    4. It will send you a Verification Code on the added Phone Number. Hence, access the same.
    5. On the Two-step Verification window, enter this Verification Code.
    6. Then, click “Verify”.
  13. Alternatively, select “No Thanks” to skip adding the Verification process. 
  14. Once you get the “Congratulations” message window, click “Finish”.

Register Your Product

Netgear Extender Setup

After establishing your MyNetgear Account, register your Netgear Extender for proceeding to the Netgear Extender Setup. For this, simply “Log In” to your MyNetgear Account at netgear.com/mynetgear. Then, click on Register a Product from the Sidebar of your Account’s Dashboard. Thereafter, enter your Product’s “Serial Number” and “Date Of Purchase”. Finally, click on the “Register” tab.

Netgear WiFi Extender Setup
  • Carefully unbox your Netgear Extender.
  • Turn On your WiFi Router and Computer. 
  • Place the Extender close to your Router.
  • You must “plug it in” to a Power Outlet. Then, turn it on. Confirm that its Power Lamp is lit and stable. 
  • Netgear Extender Setup can be done in two distinct ways depending upon your Router’s Specifications. Hence, choose an appropriate method and proceed with one of the following alternatives.

Through Wps 

    1. Netgear Extender has a physical WPS push-button on its rear end. Some models may have it on its side panel. Hence, press the same to initiate the Netgear Extender Setup.
    2. Go to your WiFi Router.  Press and hold its WPS push-button for a few seconds.
    3. Keep a watch on its WPS Button. It must light up. Thereafter, release it.
    4. If you have a Dual-band Router, repeat the process. 
    5. This establishes your Extender on your Home Network.

Manually Through Installation Assistant

    1. Connect your Computer to the Extender. For this either use the Extender’s WiFi Network (Router’s Network_Ext) or an Ethernet Cable.
    2. Go to “mywifiext.net”. 
    3. Click on “New Extender Setup”.
    4. On the following window, select “WiFi Range Extender” for Netgear Extender Setup.
    5. The following window enlists names of available Router Networks. Hence, choose appropriately. 
    6. Click “Connect” and provide your Router’s Password.
    7. After establishing a connection, it will display the Extender Network’s Credentials. Its Network Name will be “Router’s Network_Ext” and the Password will be the same as your Router’s. 
    8. Before proceeding, you can reset your Extender Network’s Password.
    9. Then, click “Next”.
    10. This establishes your Extender on your Home Network.
  • Now, unplug your Extender for proceeding with Netgear Extender Setup.
  • Relocate the Extender to a new location which is ideal to solve your connectivity coverage issues. It must be within the range of your Router’s Network, but, halfway between your Computing Device (that lies in a dead zone) and your Router. 
  • “Plug it in” to a Power Source. Then, turn it on. Check its Power Lamp to assure the same.
  • The Router Link LED on your Extender must light up with Green/ Amber colour. Besides, it must be stable. In case, if it is blinking or red in colour. Then, relocate the Extender to a different location. 
  • Now, place the Device that you want to connect to your Home Network, close to your Extender. Then, connect it to your Extender’s Network.
  • This completes the Netgear Extender Setup. In order to confirm the same, perform a small test. Connect a Mobile Device to your Extender’s WiFi Network and place it in a previously dead zone. This must light up your Extender’s Client Link LED in Green/Amber colour.
